A trend that is prevailing in interior design bringing exoticism and an ethnic touch is the Modern Nomad. It is inspired by textiles, ceramics and furniture that remind us of nomadic and remote cultures, close connected to the earth.
It is about incorporating into our house unique details that seem brought from a trip to distant lands, made with authentic materials and with a handmade touch. This interior design trend is born from our need to visit other latitudes and live with different cultures. Just placing a detail in the right place can make us travel.
Modern Nomad: the charm of the irregular
As it happens with the Wabi Sabi, the Modern Nomad has the charm of the handmade – and shows its flaws, knots and textures. But it is not about vibrantly colored crafts. Rather it brings a lot of elegance and serenity by using only natural colors: black, white and earth, along with the natural color of the wood. And at the same time, it is quite a sober style.
Ceramics have a special importance, since they complement with organic shapes, leaving their natural texture exposed. Extravagant accessories, such as musical instruments from distant lands made with raw materials and rough finishes will bring magic to very natural corners. But everything in its right dose.
Modern Nomad textiles
Textiles with the appearance of having been woven by hand -even using the macramé technique – and mixed with patterns reminiscent of djellaba and handmade rugs in neutral colors and geometric patterns, decorate Modern Nomad homes. They provide the warmth of natural fibers, such as cotton or wool.

The ceramics and small paintings in a style that straddles the ethnic and the naive, with representations of human figures in styles from remote countries, decorate corners providing a focus of surprise. Framing these sheets of craft paper in thin wooden sober and light frames, will be a perfect decision.
Sustainable materials
The rattan, cane or wicker furniture in natural tones and untreated woods are also part of the new Modern Nomad trend, which combines dark and light tones in contrast and does not forget sustainability.
In the living room, the baskets take center stage and transform spaces, while also providing their storage capacity. In a home decorated in the Modern Nomad style, you can almost smell the different vegetable fibers that coexist in perfect harmony.
This trend also finds its place in fashion accessories, through sober, organic bracelets, pendants and belts; in which the natural material used can be clearly seen and which, as in the interior design trend, provide a chic, traveling and elegant touch.
