Technology and innovation, Esmalglass allies for sustainability

Nowadays being sustainable in economic terms as well as in environmental ones is one of the major challenges of all companies and Esmalglass avails of technology and innovation in its processes as its main allies in order to achieve this.

Society is calling for greater commitment on the part of those companies in its environment and, in the case of Esmalglass, the commitment lies not only in offering quality products backed up by continuous innovation and investment in technology but also in embracing sustainability as one of our main business values, which is reflected in all the procedures and decisions taken within the Group.

A commitment to sustainability through innovation

The commitment to sustainability is not only on paper. The Altadia Group is among world leaders in applying solutions that meet the challenges of care of the environment and the fight against climate change. In 2020, investment in improving the company’s main production plants led to a reduction of 10% in greenhouse gas emissions. What’s more, we have seen a decrease of 10% in waste generation. As a result of the redesign of our processes, we were one of the first companies to obtain the Integrated Environmental Authorisation and the ISO 14.001 certification relating to the Environmental Management System and we are likewise a member of the United States Green Building Council, which promotes sustainability in building in line with the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design system.

All of this is possible thanks to the programmes we have launched, involving:

  • Recovery of industrial wastewater and subproducts generated in the production process.
  • The reduction in the emission of particles into the atmosphere.
  • The use of natural gas (one of the cleanest) as the main fuel.
  • Activation of the co-generation plant with the steam turbine to generate 70% of internal electricity consumption, reducing CO2 emissions.
  • Research for the use of cleaner alternative raw materials.
  • Selective recycling of the waste generated and reuse of packaging (pallets, sacks, tubs, big-bags, etc.) to minimize waste generation, while also fomenting the circular economy.

Eco-sustainable products

This investment in innovation and technology in sustainability has not only resulted in our adopting a socially responsible management model, but also in our being in the position to offer society products that respond to the needs and priorities of people, who are looking for proposals which have less impact on the environment without it affecting their quality and durability.

Seeing that our main raw materials are basic elements of nature (clay, water and fire), with low environmental impact due to their resistance and easy maintenance, as well as facilitating energy efficiency as it is a natural heat regulator, our job must be to provide the necessary innovation in order to maximise their properties. An example of this is the launch of Eco-S, a line of eco-sustainable products, made from a high proportion of  pre-consumer materials so as to reduce the natural resources required as well as CO2 emissions and comply with the strictest environmental standards, adding value and competitiveness to the product.

Moreover, the commitment does not stop at offering the best product possible, as, by developing products which do not require special treatment for their care, ones which are easy to clean, with a low environmental impact, and which are long-lasting and highly resistant to weather conditions, the consumer is guaranteed a longer and more stable product life cycle. Opting for Esmalglass is opting for quality and sustainability.
