Decoration for Gen Z: character and comfort

Digital natives or Generation Z are those people born between 1995 and 2012, many of whom are now trying to find their place in the world and for whom their environment and private spaces are very important. Feeling comfortable and inspired in their bedroom and home is a priority, functionality is a fundamental feature, and their style has very little to do with that of their predecessors.

Colours and textures

When choosing colours, Gen Z steer clear of the pink or floral patterns favoured by millennials. They are more attracted to different shades of green, even different blues, as in nature, more timeless and across-the-board, be it in decoration or in furniture or even on the walls. And, for them, although functionality in furniture is fundamental, likewise important is being able to express their personality and state of mind in their spaces, which is why notice boards, grids or elements for hanging photos, notes and reminders are always present in the most intimate corners, such as bedrooms. A very popular choice of Gen Z are slate-effect walls where they can give free rein to their creativity or simply write something down that they do not wish to forget.

Technology and functionality as protagonists

Although all generations like to feel good, in the case of the centennials, wellbeing also includes a good dose of entertainment and relaxation, which is why there is always a place for technology: video games, powerful computers, laptops, tablets, state-of-the-art mobile phones, large, high definition monitors are the norm, and this implies having areas in which comfort is the norm. For many, the home is now a place of work as well as entertainment, which is why ergonomic chairs, spacious tables for holding the computer, earphones and other related devices and diverse cables are gaining ground.

Comfort in communal spaces

Following the pandemic, being comfortable in the home has become a priority and the living room has become a place for getting together with those closest to you, which is why these spaces tend to be as comfortable as possible. Comfortable furniture is fundamental, as are sofas, cushions or puffs of all sizes, not forgetting an authentic and personal touch with the addition of an element that provides a touch of colour to the room, a colourful chair or puff, which fills the spot with positive energy.

For this new generation attaching as it does such importance to personal connections and their private space, the bedroom and the home are a retreat in which they not only wish to express their personality but also to find their corner for relaxing, enjoying themselves, to be shared with their loved ones, and both aesthetics and furniture are tools to help attain their goal.
